Amazing Adventure Against Stigma

Embarking on an Interactive Journey Against Stigma

In May 2020, we received an invitation from the Department of Psychology at CUHK to develop an interactive website with the goal of increasing awareness about mental illness and reducing the stigma surrounding individuals who experience it.

To fulfill this objective, our team devised an engaging online experience called "Amazing Adventure Against Stigma," which takes users on a game-like, linear journey. Through a combination of dialogues and games, we present the topic in a step-by-step manner. To establish a personal connection with visitors, we designed seven characters that are gender-neutral, each having distinct body types and outfits.

The creation of this journey involved the collaborative efforts of our in-house team and external partners. We undertook various tasks such as storyboarding, character design, illustration, animation, and theme music. Despite the serious nature of the subject matter, we incorporated a light-hearted tone into the journey.

In addition to the primary interactive website, we developed several web pages that offer supplementary information about the project, stigma, and micro-aggression. Visitors also have the opportunity to participate in a forum where they can provide feedback and share their own stories.

One notable feature is the inclusion of six designated photo spots throughout the journey. Users can take screenshots at these locations and send them as souvenirs to their friends and family. Before the launch, we created a countdown page as a teaser to generate excitement among TourHeart fans.

Visitors can interact with the characters using touch commands on mobile devices and tablets, or mouse commands on computers. By clicking and dragging, they can activate character movements, wipe away dirt, make decisions, and progress to new stages.

Upon completing the journey, participants will receive a complimentary set of 20 WhatsApp stickers as a token of appreciation.
